What are the benefits of practicing yoga?
The physical benefits of yoga are many. It increases strength, vitality, flexibility and agility. It also eases digestion, while improving the nervous system and blood circulation. A more subtle benefit to yoga is the development of self awareness. Through practice, yoga offers a more creative ability to understand ourselves. I'm brand new to yoga, how do I get started? Which class is best for me?
Our 6-Week Absolute Beginners series is the best way to begin your yoga practice. This 6-week course will help you gain the confidence and knowledge to step into any Basics or Level I class on our schedule! The class size is limited to a small group, allowing for questions and lots of personal attention. We meet once a week, with the same teacher for all 6 weeks. Each class builds upon each other – learning how to breathe, make the shapes of the poses and learning the names of each pose. Each student receives a booklet with the Sanskrit and English names along with an illustration of each posture.

Can I take a Level I or a Mixer class if I've never done yoga before?
As a beginner, we recommend our Basics first and then moving on to a Level 1 class. Our Basics class is for beginning students to learn the correct alignment of the basic yoga poses. Our Level classes are designed for students who have attended Basics classes and are ready for more active classes. All of our classes work on strength, flexibility, well-being, and inner focus.

Why is there chanting? Do I have to chant?
The chants are mantras. Chanting is creating a connection to a part of yourself. It is a positive, verbal, and encouraging method to help break through and clear up aspects of you that may be covered up. The chants are spoken in Sanskrit. Chanting is optional, although we find that many hesitant beginners soon give up the giggles and give in to the uplifting moment! The process of chanting is meant to bring people together in a fun and inclusive practice!

What do I wear and what do I bring?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for stretching. Shorts, sweatpants, and tanktops are fine. However, please be aware of large t-shirts that fall over your face during inversions! No footwear is required since yoga is practiced barefoot. Bring a yoga mat and a hand towel. If you do not have a mat, we can sell or rent you one.

Can I eat before class?
Try not to eat anything heavy right before class. A good rule of thumb is two hours before class. It is recommended that you practice on an empty stomach. A full stomach may cause discomfort and distract you from your practice.
